  • North Island:
    • Paihia - Bay of Islands - many, small islands with nice beaches
    • Waipoua Forest - giant forest with "Kauri" trees
    • Tane Mahuta - biggest Kauri tree in New Zealand (see also: Four Sisters, Yakas, Te Matua, Ngahere)
    • Lake Taharoa - nice lake to camp and swim
    • Lake Taupo, Rotorua
    • Auckland Area: Nightlife is great so visit Ponsonby Road – Ponsonby Centra
    • Muriwai Maori Bay Bach - gannet colony with amazing cliffs and beaches
    • Auckland: Sky Tower, Coromandel peninsula
    • Cathedral Cove - touristy cove - only accessible during low tide season
    • Hot water beach - only accessible during low tide season - dig a hole in the sand and bath in hot water
    • Matamata (!) - Lord of the Rings filmset tour that takes you to Hobbiton
    • Rotorua - Kuriau park with steaming springs
    • Kerosene creek - warm river
    • Wellington - Oriental Bay, Victoria Street, Civic Square, Parlament, Old St. Pauls Cathedral, Cuba Street, Botanic Garden and Te Papa Museum
  • South Island
    • Abel Tasman Track - must book beforehand - beautiful hiking track
    • Franz Josef Glacier and Fox Glacier - must see for Austrians
    • gilespies beach - free camping near the glaciers
    • Lake Matheson - MUST SEE mirrorlake. go early in the morning or it will be full of tourists
    • Queenstown - queenstown gardens, black sheep hostel, moonlight track, Fergburger (eat Big Al and try mince & cheese pie), lunch at Amisfield Winery, do a bungy jump, & shot over jet, eat at Winnies
    • Milford Sound
    • Tasman glacier
    • Ohau stream seal pups - waterfall with baby seals
    • Christchurch
    • Antarctic international Center - center for antartctis expeditions
